Edwin, I've had this problem intermittently with my '96 Savage.

What I've learned about it, some of it has already come up. But just to be thorough:

1. If Mem has been sitting for awhile, and cranks without starting, I prime the carb then try again.

2. I've observed that as I get to the end of an air filter cycle, starting gets more difficult. Even though I maintain the bike carefully and according to very conservative intervals. Part of that is no doubt a breathing problem--regardless of choke setting, Mem will do this.

But another thing I learned the hard way--with good advice from folks in this group--is that a dirty air will also hold MOISTURE. I had that happen on a very humid/muggy evening, late last summer in Wisconsin. We'd run the previous day in a downpour. Mem was fine. The next evening, we started up fine, went a little ways--then Mem choked out and would not restart.

I've found that Mem has gotten a little twitchier on starting in the past year. I've had the carb cleaned twice in the past two months, and am waiting to see what comes from that. So far, we've enjoyed riding here in the Santa Cruz Mts. near our new home in San Francisco.

Best of luck.

peace
misha
